On the 13th and 14th of June 2011, the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Political Thought and Conceptual Change presents a research training course with the theme 'Rethinking Parliaments'. Projects which will be discussed are 'The Politics of Dissensus: Parliamentarism, Rhetoric and Conceptual History' and 'Parliamentary Means of Conflict Resolution in Twentieth-Century Britain'.

The main speakers at the conference will be Frank Ankersmit (University of Groningen), specialist on questions of representation, Cornelia Ilie (University of Malmö), specialist on parliamentary discourse in a comparative perspective and Willibald Steinmetz (University of Bielefeld), specialist on the history of parliamentary speaking.

The course will consist of lectures, comments and participants' papers. International specialists on the field will give the lectures. Other advanced scholars will present comments on the lectures and serve as discussants for participants' papers.

Those interested in participating should send an abstract of 200 words by 15 April 2011 to Pasi Ihalainen, Kari Palonen and Suvi Soininen.
