Target Group
This seminar is directed at civil servants from the EU Member States, candidate countries and the EU institutions, as well as anyone representing their interests in an EU context, such as regional, third country, business or civil society actors.
Description
The seminar addresses all the key questions around the theme of ‘How to Work with the EU Institutions’ that are important for civil servants and stakeholders who need to engage with the EU system. The seminar is divided into three institutional sessions on the Commission, Parliament and Council, where the objective is to identify how decisions are taken, by whom and subject to what conditions. This is followed by a methodological session on how to develop a lobbying methodology and structure interactions with the EU institutions. Finally the seminar will close with an interactive group work session where participants are asked to apply their knowledge to a concrete case i.e. develop their own winning strategy.
Learning Methodology
The seminar contains a combination of presentations, discussions and group work on the EU institutions how best to work with them. Case studies and examples will be used to enliven the seminar and participants will be encouraged to bring their own files and questions with them as the seminar also provides a forum for ideas, exchange of good practice and networking.
Objectives
The seminar will equip participants with the knowledge, methodology, tools and confidence to fully understand, and more effectively engage in, the Brussels decision-making process. At the end of the seminar participants will have a sound understanding of the opportunities and methods available for influencing EU decision-making. This will enable them to more effectively engage in their EU work in the future.
