General Affairs Council (GAC) - Hoofdinhoud
| date | July 24 2012 |
|---|---|
| city | Brussel, Belgium |
| address | Wetstraat 175 [kaart] |
| location | Justus Lipsius |
| organisation | General Affairs Council (RAZ) |
The Commission will present to the Council revised proposals concerning the multiannual financial framework (MFF) for the period 2014-2020 which take into account Croatia's accession, scheduled for mid-2013, the spring macro-economic forecast and new regional and national economic data.
The MFF will be on the agenda of each General Affairs Council under the Cyprus presidency, which intends to continue work on the basis of the "negotiating box" (a document, drafted by the presidency, outlining key issues and options of the MFF negotiation package). It is updated as the negotiations progress, and forms the basis for a unanimous agreement by the European Council which is expected by the end of the year.
The Cyprus presidency will inform ministers on the organisation of work in this field during its term of office and on the bilateral meetings with member states which took place from 10-19 July.
Furthermore, the Council will discuss the follow-up to the European Council of 28-29 June.
Finally, the Cyprus presidency will present its work programme for the General Affairs Council for the next six months.
The presidency will hold a press briefing in the Council press room a few days before the meeting. A press conference will take place at the end of the meeting.
Presidency briefing, agenda and background note will be published on the Council website closer to the date of the meeting.

The General Affairs Council (GAC) consists of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the European Union. The Council covers topics that affect more than one policy area; for example negotiations on enlargement, negotiations on the multi-annual financial framework and the preparation of institutional and administrative matters.
This Council prepares - along with the president of the European Council and with the European Commission - the meetings of the European Council. This Council deals with matters it is entrusted to by the European Council. GAC also coordinates work on policies by the other council formations.
