The European Economic and Social Committee is drawing up an own-initiative opinion on the topic of "Personal social, sanitary and educational services industries". In this context, a public hearing is organized in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 6 September 2012.
Background of the topic is that an increased demand of personal social, sanitary and educational services is expected in the medium-term future. The demographic trends that show a rapid increase of the older population, the fact that more women enter the labour market and the growing labour mobility will result in the need for personal services such as early-childhood care or individualised services for the elderly.
This own-initiative opinion of CCMI aims to explore the changing trends of the personal social, sanitary and educational service industries, to identify their possible future developments and to tackle the challenges of this industrial sector in terms of labour market, education and training, financial and migration issues. This opinion is presented in the context of the European Year 2012 on “Active ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity” (EY2012) and it is expected to add value to this European initiative.
